Kizuna will be hosting an educational and fun-filled summer cultural camp for elementary and middle school students in the Gardena/Torrance area called the Nikkei Discovery Camp.
Offered for three separate weeks from July 22-26, July 29-Aug. 2, and Aug. 5-9, the camp provides children with a discovery of their Japanese American culture and heritage. Activities and lessons aim to create positive self-images and identities in the Japanese American heritage that children will value for years to come.
Children will engage in hands-on craft activities and Japanese American cultural lessons. It will be held at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute (JCI) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Enrollment is open to all children ages 7-12 (entering second to entering eighth grade). Campers can sign up for separate individual weeks and registration is $255 per child, per week. Camp activities are led by high school juniors, seniors, and college students serving as camp counselors under adult supervision.
Registration is now open at kizuna-la.org/programs/nikkei-discovery-camp/.
