Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will celebrate the contributions of Asian and Pacific Islander American Angelenos during the 2013 Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month opening ceremonies on Friday, May 10, at 10 a.m. in the City Council Chambers, 200 N. Spring St., Los Angeles.

This year’s theme is “DREAM” (determination, resilience, excellence, aspiration, movement).

Villaraigosa will recognize and honor the following individuals:

• Iron Chef America Jet Tila, who will receive the Dream of Los Angeles Award;

• L.A. Conservation Corps Executive Director Bruce Saito, who will receive the Spirit of Los Angeles Award;

• General Manager Dennis Davis of LA18 KSCI-TV (which broadcasts local news in Vietnamese, Mandarin and Korean to 2.5 million Asian American viewers), who will receive the Hope of Los Angeles Award.

The mayor will also unveil the 2013 Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month Calendar and Cultural Guide produced by the Department of Cultural Affairs.

The ceremony will be followed by a free public event with food and live entertainment at South Plaza, 200 N. Main St. (directly across from City Hall).
