On Friday, June 21, at 3 p.m., the Friends of Little Tokyo Branch Library, Motorway One Music and Little Tokyo Branch Library will present an afternoon of jazz representing the continuing legacy of Bronzeville in the post-World War II Little Tokyo community.

“After Bronzeville” will feature the Scott Nagatani Trio, with Nagatani on piano, Taiji Miyagawa on bass, and Danny Yamamoto on drums, plus Tracy Wannomae on saxophone.

They will be joined by BichNg Productions, a high-powered piano and drum set duo playing their renditions of jazz standards and classic rock songs inspired by Chris Wabich’s flair for funky time signatures and Middle Eastern grooves and Jenny Ing’s jazz/Broadway piano stylings and vocal arrangements.

During the war, while Japanese Americans were interned, Little Tokyo became Bronzeville, an African American community known for its jazz clubs.

This event, part of Make Music LA, and is free and all ages are welcome.

The Little Tokyo Branch Library is located at 203 S. Los Angeles St. at Second Street. For more information, call (213) 612-0525 or visit www.lapl.org/branches/little-tokyo.
