WEST COVINA — West Covina Buddhist Temple’s 2013 Obon Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 29, from 2 to 9 p.m. at the East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center, 1203 W. Puente Ave., West Covina.

The annual festival offers a day full of Japanese culture, cuisine, and the spiritually meaningful Bon Odori, a kind of celebratory group dance that symbolizes the world of oneness that is the goal of the Buddhist teaching.

The tentative entertainment schedule: Shinkendo at 2:30 p.m., Odori-kai at 3 p.m., karate at 3:30 p.m., Nippon Minyo at 4 p.m., judo at 4:30 p.m., kendo at 5 p.m., Kishin Daiko at 5:30 p.m.

The Manto-e service, in which those who have lost loved ones in the previous year offer incense, will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by Bon Odori at 7 p.m.
