Yuko Mabuchi

PASADENA — Jazz pianist Yuko Mabuchi will take the stage in Pasadena this Sunday, performing as part of the Levitt Pavilion’s summer concert series.

A native of Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture, the 31-year-old Mabuchi moved to Alhambra to further her studies in jazz at the Music Performing Arts Academy.

“There weren’t too many opportunities to perform in my hometown,” Mabuchi told The Rafu. “I wanted to meet people all over the world and study the culture and traditions of jazz.”

On Sunday, Mabuchi and her band will perform some of her original compositions – including selections from her latest album, “Waves” – as well as a few well-known standards.

The show begins at 7 p.m. at the Levitt Pavilion, located in Pasadena’s Memorial Park, at the corner of Walnut Street and Raymond Avenue. Take the Metro Gold Line to Memorial Park Station.

After Sunday, Mabuchi’s next performance will be at a July 19 community event a Pasadena’s Jackie Robinson Park.
