Approximately 2,500 walkers enjoyed a day of exercise and good eats at the third annual Walk the Farm event held at Tanaka Farms in Irvine on June 15. Over 500 volunteers from 35 different community organizations helped raise about $80,000 that will help select farmers in northern Japan still recovering from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Glen Tanaka, owner of Tanaka Farms, said they will also be donating to the Oklahoma Farm Bureau to help farmers impacted by recent tornadoes. The event was sponsored by Tanaka Farms and Orange Coast Optimist. (Photos above and below by RYOKO NAKAMURA/Rafu Shimpo)
