On June 4 at Garvey Ranch Park in Monterey Park, a tree was dedicated in memory of Eastside Optimist Club of Monterey Park member Herb Motonaga for his many years of contributions to the city and for helping the youths in the community. The ceremony was attended by many dignitaries and Motonaga’s friends and family. A plaque can be found under Motonaga’s tree. Among those in attendance were former Assemblymember Mike Eng, Chizuru Imai, Lani Hans, Liang Hans (club president), Kiyoshi Imai, Mildred Motonaga (wife), Derik Motonaga (son), Gail Motonaga Chang (daughter), and Samantha Chang (granddaughter).
