Paul Tanaka, candidate for Los Angeles County sheriff, announced Sept. 17 that he would be visiting the county’s 88 cities over the next 88 days.

The tour includes various meet-and greets with members of the community, elected officials and other leaders in hopes of better understanding the needs of the county’s diverse residents.
“This countywide tour is about listening to the needs of residents,” said Tanaka, former county undersheriff and current mayor of Gardena. “I have always believed the most important service government provides to its citizens is public safety. Therefore, we must always keep the lines of communication open between public safety officers and members of the community.
“Providing outstanding public safety services is crucial in order to increase quality of life, incentivize economic development and ensure our neighborhoods remain safe, not only now, but far into the future.
To kick off the tour, Tanaka met with voters in La Mirada and Whittier.
