Having Sawtelle Japantown residents, past and present, tell about the “Greening of Sawtelle” is the focus of a forum session along with a program that honors the community centenarians as well as recognizes Nikkei leaders.

Mike Bonin, current councilman of District 11, has agreed to make the presentations. Mary Misono, assistant in the District 11 office, who has managed the office for 57 years, will be honored.

Centenarians to be honored include Stanley Ikeda, Mitsuo Kodama, Mike Shintaku, and the late Torako Akutagawa.

The program is on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the New Center for Psychoanalysis, 2014 Sawtelle Blvd. in the heart of Sawtelle Japantown. The public is invited. No charge for admission, but donations to Japanese Institute of Sawtelle (JIS), a 501(c)3 organization, will be welcomed to continue to subsidize future forums. Part of this forum is subsidized by the Terasaki Community Outreach Funds.

Parking is available from Beloit Avenue, behind the NCP building. Attendants will direct visitors who cannot find parking in fine-exempt neighboring streets.

Further information is available on the JIS website, www.SawtelleJIS.org, or by emailing john@uscsposts.com or jack.fujimoto@verizon.net.
