Newport Beach sophomore Amy Matsuoka is one of 20 golfers to be named to the 12th Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Team.
By taking home the championship at the 2013 Lockton Kansas City Junior, Matsuoka added a win to a summer season that already included two third-place and two fifth-place finishes. Matsuoka is currently ranked No. 31 in the Polo Golf Rankings.
Specifically designed for boys and girls ages 12-15, Gilchrist Academy Series events present opportunities for younger players to develop their skills and earn entry into American Junior Golf Association open tournaments.
The team was selected based on the Polo Golf Rankings, and players must have competed in at least one Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star event during 2013 in order to be eligible.
The team of 10 boys and 10 girls will be honored Friday, Oct. 11, at the Nike Golf Junior All-Star Invitational in Norman, Okla.
Other local golfers named to the team are Elizabeth Wang of San Marino and Samuel Kim of Irvine.
