
EL CERRITO — The second annual J-Sei Family Festival will be held Sunday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the El Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane, El Cerrito.
Back by popular demand, the event will celebrate Grandparents Day with traditional Japanese demonstrations, food, and hands-on activities for all ages. Planned indoor and outdoor activities include:
• Shibori (cloth dyeing)
• Food booths
• Gyotaku (fish-rubbing art)
• Japanese wood joinery
• Origami
• Ikebana
• Sake tasting
• Sushi making
• Manju making
• Bonsai design
• Kite making
• Otedama (bean bags for juggling)
Schedule of performances:
11:30 a.m. — Sakura Kai Taiko
12:15 p.m. — Genyukai Berkeley (Okinawan music and dance)
1:30 p.m. — East Bay Seiha Koto Ensemble
2 p.m. — Sentimental Strummers (ukulele)
