kids helping kidsIRVINE — Orange Coast Optimists, in cooperation with Tanaka Farms, will hold a fundraising yard sale on Saturday, Nov. 2, to assist young victims who lost one or both parents in Japan’s 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

The event will be held at Tanaka Farms, 5380 University Dr. in Irvine, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Members of the community are asked to donate “gently used” items for sale, including clothes, kitchenware, household goods, furniture, toys, etc. The kids of OCO are volunteering their time and energy to host and work the sale, which has been dubbed “Kids Helping Kids.”

After more than two years, and with so many natural disasters around the world, Japan is now a “past” in the minds of many, but many people are still suffering there. Most of their material items can be replaced, but some parents are gone forever. The lives of those kids are forever changed. This event is a great way for the OCO kids to help these kids.

Donations for the sale are being accepted Saturday, Oct. 5, between 9 a.m. and noon at Tanaka Farms, with other donation opportunities upcoming.

To make arrangements for donations at a different time, email walkthefarm@gmail.com.

Volunteers are also welcome during the sale on Nov. 2. To volunteer or for more information, email Kai Siebert at kai.o.siebert@gmail.com, Julia Wong at julia@planet-wong.com, or visit www.ocoyouth.org.
