“Awesome Autumn” is the theme of Target Free Family Saturday on Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Japanese American National Museum, 100 N. Central Ave. (at First Street) in Little Tokyo.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Kidding Around the Kitchen welcomes “Awesome Autumn” with a make-it-yourself Festive Fall Salad using the best that the fall harvest has to offer.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Calling all comic book readers! Come relax and read in the Comic Book Lounge in celebration of the “Marvels and Monsters” exhibition.

1:30 and 2:30 p.m.: Want to bang on a drum? Join in on an energetic drum circle. Fit for all ages and no experience necessary.

3 p.m.: A reading of “Thanksgiving at Obaachan’s” with author Janet Mitsui Brown. Then stick around to decorate your own furoshiki (wrapping cloth) complete with your own mini omanju (traditional confection) to snack on.

All-day activities:

• Make a tissue-paper leaf window decoration to welcome the fall.

• Whoo whoo wants to come construct a fun owl?

• Color a Veterans Day-related coloring page with Go For Broke.

• Ruthie’s Origami Corner: Fold a maple leaf with Ruthie and make it into a bookmark.

• Jump and bounce around in the camo-print bounce house in honor of Veterans Day.

Veterans Day with Go For Broke

 

Visit Go For Broke at their monument, just outside of the museum, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Japanese American World War II veterans will sign their baseball cards. Crafts and other fun activities will include bracelet-making and word challenges.

A caricaturist will be on site from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and a scavenger hunt will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m.
