WEST COVINA — Applications are available for the East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center Queen. The Miss ESGVJCC Queen Coronation will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 1 p.m.

Preliminary qualifications include but are not limited to the following. Applicants MUST BE at least 19 years old and not older than 25 on the day of the Nisei Week Coronation in August 2014; of 50% Japanese ancestry; born in the United States or naturalized as a permanent U.S. resident; single, not divorced or separated, without children; and members of the ESGVJCC.

Winner of the Miss ESGVJCC Queen Coronation will be given the opportunity to represent the ESGVJCC in the 2014 Nisei Week Queen Coronation.

Registration cost is $25 for current members of ESGVJCC. If an applicant is NOT a member, the registration cost is $100, which includes the $75 membership fee.

Deadline for application is Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. Applications can be downloaded from the ESGVJCC website at esgvjcc.org. Applicants must attend the mandatory orientation on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m.

For over 62 years, the ESGVJCC has been dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage unique to Japanese Americans. With over 25 programs, classes and activities that bridge culture, family, and community, the ESGVJCC continues to grow as one of the premier cultural institutes for Japanese Americans and those interested in Japanese culture in Southern California. The center has been a proud sponsor of the Nisei Week Queen Coronation since 1981.
