The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) announced it is extending the public comment and review period on the Southern Owens Valley Solar Ranch Project Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to Friday, Dec. 20.

The project has drawn criticism from Japanese American community organizations, Owens Valley residents and others because of its potential impact on the area and proximity to the Manzanar National Historic Site.

Originally scheduled to close Nov. 26, the comment period was extended to allow additional time for review, according to LADWP. All interested parties should submit written comments pertaining to the Draft EIR by the earliest possible date, but no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 20. The Draft EIR is available at www.ladwp.com/envnotices.

The final EIR is projected for completion in the first quarter or early in the second quarter of 2014, after which it will be submitted to the LADWP Board of Commissioners.
