Joe Atsumi Yamakido passed away on Feb. 21, 2014 in Hiouchi, Calif., surrounded by his family. He was 91. Joe was a former internee at Tule Lake and the lone resister at Jerome. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Haruo, Masaharu and Tadao; his ex-wife Aki; and his beloved daughter, Coleen. He is survived by his sisters Chidori and Akiko; sons Steve Osawa, Wayne (Linda) and Tyler and daughters Aileen Sanchez (Ernie) and Laureen; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA. Cremation is being handled by Redwood Care in Crescent City, CA.
