George Mio, Terminal Island-born and longtime resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2014 at his home at Pacific Inn in Torrance, Calif. He was 92 years old. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ruby, and their four children: Arthur (Margie) Mio, Priscilla (Ken) Mui, Jeffery Mio, Marlene (Chris) Yamada; seven grandchildren: Mariko (Michael) O’Byrne, Michael (Cheryl) Mio, Leslie (Ryan) Nguyen, Derek Mio, Austin Yamada, Tanner Yamada, Bryce Yamada; three great-grandchildren; sister Fusaye Hashimoto; nieces and nephews.
A private service was held for family and church members at Long Beach Buddhist Church. A Celebration of Life (casual attire) will take place at Orange County Buddhist Church gym at 2 p.m. on June 14, 2014 to honor the legacy of George Mio — a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and extraordinary sport-fishing captain.
