An attempt at setting the world record for the largest ukulele ensemble fell short June 28 at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Little Tokyo, but that did little to dampen the mood of those who turned out and tuned up for the effort. The official count of players was 1,020, well below the 2,135 needed to break the mark currently held by Yokohama. Above, Daniel Ho (right of center) leads the crowd in the plaza in a cheer after the attempt.
Ukulele players of all stripes attended, including a somewhat equine participant, and the Disney-eared group of (from left) Ben Lane, Jeff Ranjo, Nanvy Kruse, Nelio Naut and Cher Lane.
