MONTEBELLO — Sozenji Buddhist Temple, 3020 W. Beverly Blvd. in Montebello, will hold its 38th annual Obon Festival on Sunday, July 20, from 1 to 7:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

2 p.m.: Hatsubon, Obon and Manto-E service

4 p.m.: Children’s chorus

5 p.m.: Minyo (folk music)

5:30 p.m.: Bon Odori

6 p.m.: Taiko drumming

7 p.m.: Raffle drawing

The festival, which is free and open to the public, also features food booths and a farmer’s market.

Sozenji is a Soto Zen Buddhist temple established by Rev. Shuyu Hideo Kurai and members in 1971. The current abbot is Rev. Shuichi Thomas Kurai. Shotsuki monthly memorial and family service is held on the first Sunday of the month at 10 a.m., Zen class on the first Sunday of the month at 11 a.m., and zazen meditation every Saturday from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m.
