CONCORD — The 58th annual Japanese Summer Festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, from 1 to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 10, from 12 to 8:30 p.m. at the Diablo Japanese American Club, 3165 Treat Blvd. in Concord.
Food booths, offering sushi, tempura, chicken teriyaki and other dishes, are open all day along with exhibits of bonsai, ikebana and calligraphy. The schedule of events is as follows:
Saturday, Aug. 9
Koto performance at 2 p.m. inside the gym
Diablo Taiko at 3 p.m. on the pavilion
Judo demonstration at 4:30 p.m. on the back lawn
San Jose Taiko at 6 p.m. on the pavilion
Matsutoyo Kai at 7 p.m.
Obon Odori at 7:30 p.m. on and around the pavilion
Sunday, Aug. 10
Ikenobo demonstration at 2 p.m. inside the gym
Sonoma Taiko at 3 p.m. on the pavilion
Kendo demonstration at 4 p.m. on the back lawn
Tatsumaki Taiko at 5 p.m. on the pavilion
Michiya Hanayagi Dancers at 6 p.m.
Obon Odori at 6:30 p.m. on and around the pavilion
Raffle drawing at 8:30 p.m.
Free parking and shuttle service will be available at Ygnacio Valley High School, 755 Oak Grove Rd., Concord.
