Hiroshima Kenjin Kai of Southern California has formally joined the efforts of Hiroshima Prefecture and various Hiroshima-based NGOs and NPOs in the effort to raise funds in support of the victims of the disaster that befell the local community and residents of northern Hiroshima on Aug. 20.
As of Sept. 1, by an official account by Hiroshima Prefecture, the death toll from mudslides in the city of Hiroshima reached 72, with two persons still missing and 44 persons injured. In addition, 24 structures were totally destroyed, 41 half-destroyed, and 65 partially destroyed. Nearly 300 homes were damaged by water inundation. About half of 1,000 evacuees are still sheltered in local elementary schools.

This fundraising drive will be carried through the end of the month (Sept. 30).
All funds collected in this drive will be sent to Japan Red Cross Hiroshima Office for distribution to the disaster victims.
