Funeral service for Shinji “Henry” Miyata, 100-year-old El Centro (Imperial Valley), Calif.-born Nisei and longtime resident of Covina, who passed away on Oct. 10, 2014, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. at the Golden Chapel of Rose Hills-Alhambra on 550 East Main Street, Alhambra, CA 91801, with Pastor David Fukuyama officiating.
He is survived by his brother Tommy (Mieko) Miyata; sisters-in-laws Lily Miyata, Yuriko Miyata, and Edith (Myles) Glasgow; brother-in-laws Robert (Nobuko) Maeda and Han Tatsui; nephews Allan (Melissa), Glenn, Dean (Nenita), and Keith (Jennifer) and nieces Donna (Michael) O’Kane, Sharon (Teresa Clark), Steve (Nancy) and John (Ronda) Hashimoto, Betsy (Howie) Axelson, and Kimi (Andy) Smith; and many grandchildren.
Shinji was co-founder of the East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center.
