traneka davis for webTraneka Davis, who had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, stressed the importance of having more people of color sign up as potential bone marrow donors during an A3M (Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches) event in Little Tokyo on June 1, 2014. She was unable to find a match and passed away Dec. 31 at age 36 at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles with her mother, father and sister by her side. Services were held Jan. 10 at Fountain of Praise Church in Houston, her hometown. Over the last year and a half, she set up registration drives, appeared at several events, and was featured on radio stations and blogs, where she spoke about her journey and the need for donors to help save the lives of people afflicted with blood cancers.
