Engage your kids and the whole family with Kizuna’s Family Mochitsuki Workshops.
Kizuna is hosting two separate workshops: Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute, 1964 W. 162nd St., Gardena, and Sunday, March 15, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Orange County Buddhist Church, 909 S. Dale Ave., Anaheim.
Each participant gets the opportunity to pound mochi the “old-fashioned style” with mallets and mortar, mold mochi, flavor and eat it, take some home for later, and learn the cultural significance of tradition of mochitsuki. This is the perfect opportunity to build a foundation of culture and heritage for your kids and family while simultaneously strengthening family bonds.
The workshop is geared towards families and children ages 7-13, but all ages are welcome.
Registration cost starts at $14 per family, and an RSVP for each family member is required. Max of five per family. There is an additional charge of $4 per person after five.
Visit www.kizuna-la.org/programs/nikkei-discovery-camp/ to register online. The workshop is hosted by Kizuna and co-sponsored by the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute and the Gardena Valley Japanese Language School.
