
The nominees for the 87th Academy Awards were announced Thursday during a live telecast from Los Angeles.
In the Animated Feature Film category, Isao Takahata and Yoshiaki Nishimura were nominated for Studio Ghibli’s “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.” In the film, a bamboo cutter Okina finds a miniature infant inside a cane stalk and brings her home to his wife. The magical child grows immediately to the size of a human baby. Called Princess by her adoptive parents, she leads an idyllic life until her father finds riches hidden in the forest that he believes are her celestial dowry.
Also nominated: “Big Hero 6,” “The Boxtrolls,” “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” “Song of the Sea.”
In the Animated Short Film category, Robert Kondo and Dice Tsutsumi were nominated for “The Dam Keeper.” The film is about a lonely little pig who is in charge of maintaining the town dam and is cruelly bullied by his classmates.
Also nominated: “The Bigger Picture,” “Feast,” “Me and My Moulton,” “A Single Life.”
The Academy Awards ceremony will take place Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will be broadcast live on ABC.
