The Art Directors Guild on Monday announced nominees for the 19th annual Excellence in Production Design Awards, which will be presented on Jan. 31 at the Beverly Hilton.
Films nominated include “Birdman,” “Inherent Vice” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” while “Mad Men,” “Gotham” and “Game of Thrones” were among the TV nominees.

Individual nominees include:
Contemporary Film — “American Sniper” production designers James J. Murakami and Charisse Cardenas. Also nominated: “Birdman,” “Foxcatcher,” “Gone Girl,” “Nightcrawler.”
Murakami is an Academy Award nominee for best art direction for Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling” and an Emmy winner for the TV series “Deadwood.” He has worked on a number of Eastwood’s films, including “Gran Torino,” “Invictus,” “Hereafter,” “J. Edgar,” “Letters from Iwo Jima,” and “Jersey Boys.” He was named Production Designer of the Year by the Hollywood Film Festival in 2011.
Half-hour Single-camera Television Series — Production designer Ray Yamagata for the “Californication” episodes “Faith, Hope, Love,” “Like Father, Like Son” and “Kickoff,” and the “House of Lies” episodes “Wreckage,” “Middlegame” and “Zha-Moreng.” Also nominated: “Modern Family,” “Silicon Valley,” “Veep.”
Yamagata’s other TV credits include “Ray Donovan,” “Bones,” “Undercovers,” “Cold Case,” and “Alias.”
Variety, Competition, Reality or Game Show Series: Akira Yoshimura, one of the production designers for the “Saturday Night Live” episodes featuring Louis C.K. with Adam Smith, Anna Kendrick with Pharrell Williams, and Chris Rock with Prince. Also nominated: “Key & Peele,” “Portlandia,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “The Voice.”
Yoshimura has been with SNL since it began in 1975, and has occasionally appeared onscreen in comedy sketches. He has also worked on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
