GARDENA — The Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute, 1964 W. 162nd St. in Gardena, will present its annual Day of Remembrance (DOR) on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m.

DOR commemorates the signing of Executive Order 9066, which caused the mass removal and imprisonment of Japanese Americans during World War II. This year’s keynote spacer will be Dr. Satsuki Ina, Ph.D, MFT.
Ina is a licensed marriage and family therapist who has a private practice in Sacramento and works to help people become empowered. Some of her 20-plus years of experience are in multicultural counseling, assisting individuals, couples, and families who are dealing with crisis and trauma.
In addition to her work in psychotherapy, she has produced a powerful documentary film, “Children of the Camps,” which explores the long-term psychological trauma of forced removal and incarceration on Japanese Americans who were young children at the time.
The DOR will feature the full documentary, followed by commentary from Ina.
“The film shows that the camp experience is still with us today and that we can never forget,” event organizers said. “We hope that you will join us and share in the experience of this important film.”
