REDONDO BEACH — Troop 378, sponsored by Redondo Beach Elks Lodge 1378 (formerly Rolling Hills Estates), recently announced five new Eagle Scouts:

• Ryan Yuzuki, senior at Peninsula High School. Eagle project: Remodeled two playground equipment rooms for Vista Grande Elementary School in Rancho Palos Verdes.

• Jordan Watanabe, senior at Peninsula High School. Eagle project: Constructed three large trellises along with an espalier of 30 crabapple trees and a decomposed granite walkway at South Coast Botanic Gardens for people to enjoy the beauty of the grounds.

• Brandon Sim, senior at South Torrance High School. Eagle project: Constructed a seating area at George F. Canyon Park under a large California pepper tree, providing a place to enjoy the surrounding environment.

• Nicky Lofgren, senior at South Torrance High School. Eagle project: Created a dry riverbed landscape for the Southern California Live Steamers miniature train facility at Wilson Park in Torrance.

• David Snowiss, senior at South Torrance High School. Eagle project: Constructed a stretch of new white horse trail fence at Ernie Howlett Park in Rolling Hills.

The scouts were honored at the Eagle Court of Honor held on Feb. 7. Eagle Scout is the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting. In 2013, approximately seven percent of Boy Scouts attained Eagle Scout ranking.
