“Celebrating the 50th,” a benefit dance with music performed by Kokoro, will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at Nishi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple Kaikan, 815 E. First St. in Los Angeles.
In 2019, the temple will celebrate its 50th anniversary at its present site. Prompted by the city’s plans to demolish part of the north side of First Street in Little Tokyo, the L.A. Betsuin decided to move and construct a new temple in the mid-1960s. The dedication for the new temple was held on Nov. 16, 1969.
