GARDENA — The writers of the first Sansei Stories workshop will debut their stories on Sunday, April 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute, 1964 W. 162nd St., Gardena.

The writers will read their stories as part of the Second Sunday Jam session, an open mic event during which musicians and singers will also perform.

This first Sansei Stories workshop began two months ago at the GVJCI; the initial goal was to write about the Sansei experience. However, as the workshop evolved, the writers wrote stories about the Issei, Nisei, Yonsei, and about themselves. The writing process proved to be an exhilarating and cathartic experience for many of the writers.

SSJAM x Sansei Stories will be held at GVJCI’s Nisei Veterans Memorial Hall. Admission: $3 general, $1 for students. For more information, call (310) 324-6611.
