The Greater L.A. JACL held its annual Hana Uno Shephard Scholarship and Chapter Fundraising Dance on May 30 at the Ken Nakaoka Community Center in Gardena. The $1,000 scholarship, named in memory of a longtime chapter member and redress activist, is awarded to a high-achieving high school senior. This year’s recipient is Marisa Orozco, a senior at Schurr High School in Montebello who will major in economics at UC Berkeley. She was accompanied by her mother, Yuko.
