Sumiko Kuwahara (88), beloved mother, devoted wife, loving sister, and special friend to many, died peacefully in Las Vegas, Nevada due to Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Los Angeles and lived in Terminal Island until being interned at Manzanar during WWII. She was co-owner with her sister of Camellia Beauty Salon in Little Tokyo until retiring in 1992 and moving to Las Vegas.
She was predeceased by her husband (Saburo) in 2000. She is survived by daughter Kary (Jay Willis), sister (Setsuko Nishida), brother (Takao Takeuchi), and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in Las Vegas at a later date. Many thanks to the staff at Willow Creek Assisted Living and Creekside Hospice for their tender care.
