MONTEBELLO — Sozenji Buddhist Temple, 3020 W. Beverly Blvd. in Montebello, will hold its 39th annual Community Obon Festival on Sunday, July 19, from 1 to 7 p.m.

montebello obonThe festival will include food booths and produce sales. Bon, Hatsubon and Manto-E services start at 2 p.m., followed by entertainment from 4 to 6 p.m. and Bon Odori at 5:30 p.m.

Founded in 1971 by Rev. Shuyu Kurai, Sozenji opened at its present location in 1978. The temple has not only become a place for Buddhist worship, meditation, and learning, but also serves as a community and cultural center, offering a variety of classes and workshops for Japanese art and crafts and music.
