GARDENA — The Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute announced the 2015 GVJCI Scholarship Fund recipients during its annual Carnival-Matsuri on June 27.

The Gary Hori Memorial Scholarship went to Kelly Dekitani, a North High School graduate who will be attending UCLA. Her brother, Ken Dekitani, accepted on her behalf.

The Gardena Valley JACL Scholarship went to Risa Nakagawa, a Palos Verdes Peninsula High School graduate who will be attending Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She was unable to attend the presentation.

Another GV JACL Scholarship went to Kyle Matsumura, a South High school graduate who will be attending Humboldt State University in Arcata. He gave thanks and said that he hopes to continue his community involvement.

The announcement was made by GVJCI board members Charles Oyagi and Larry Hada, who are on the Scholarship Committee.
