Jane Hideko Okada McNeely was born on October 21, 1923, in Stockton, Calif. She passed away suddenly at the age of 91 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. on July 7, 2015 with her youngest daughter Roberta, nephew Sandy Tanida and friend Whitney Eum by her side.
After graduating from Hollywood High in 1942, she and her entire immediate family were sent to a relocation camp at Santa Anita Racetrack and then interned at the relocation center in Heart Mountain, Wyoming for the duration of the war. Jane loved watching and listening to taiko of any kind. She enjoyed karaoke and watching TV, especially the show “Cops.”
Preceded in death by her daughter Cheryl Anne McNeely. She is survived by her loving children, Billy Gene McNeely Jr., Elizabeth Jane Murphy, and Roberta Lea McNeely; her 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives here and in Japan. Funeral services were held at the Oxnard Buddhist Temple, 250 South “H” Street, Oxnard, CA 93030, on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
