GARDENA — The Okinawa Association of America (OAA) invites you to a special lecture on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. at the OAA Center, 16500 S. Western Ave. in Gardena.

Ronald Y. Nakasone, Ph.D. will be visiting from Northern California to share his reflections on the shamanic culture of the Ryūkyūs (Okinawa) that includes ancestral veneration and female spiritual functionaries.

Nakasone is a member of the core doctoral faculty at the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) in Berkeley and has published many works on Buddhist thought, aesthetics, art, and ethics; spirituality and aging, as well as Okinawan studies.

Admission is $5 for the general public and free for current OAA members. RSVP is required due to limited seating and parking. Contact OAA at (310) 532-1929 or to RSVP. Proceeds from this event will go toward future cultural/educational programming at OAA.
