ALHAMBRA — The Nanka Shiga Club held its general meeting and New Year’s party in Alhambra’s Almansor Court on Feb. 28.

Although the attendance was down, everybody enjoyed the delicious luncheon, slideshow presentation, raffle drawing and bingo games.

Honored guest George Mori represented the Nanka Kenjinkai Kyogikai and delivered an uplifting speech in English, expressing his intent to move the organization of prefectural associations in Southern California in a more progressive and inclusive direction. Nanka Shiga Club members felt optimistic and expressed their support for Mori, the first English-speaking president of Nanka Kenjinkai Kyogikai.

A DVD entitled “Lake Biwa Rowing Song (Biwako Shuko no Uta)” was shown, depicting the Kyoto University Rowing Club. Shiga Prefecture is most famous for Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake. Michelle Kozai gave a historical background of this song, which evokes beautiful imagery and vivid colors as it circumnavigates the lake and mentions famous places in Shiga. The party ended with everybody standing and singing this beloved song.
