GARDENA — The Greater Los Angeles JACL will hold its Hana Uno Shepard Scholarship presentation and chapter fundraising dance on Saturday, July 30, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Ken Nakaoka Community Center, 1670 W. 162nd St. in Gardena.

Dance to music by David Shinjo and enjoy a buffet of delicious finger foods.

The scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior with high achievement. At the dance, this year’s recipient will be introduced. The scholarship is named in honor of Hana Uno Shepard, an ardent supporter of GLAS JACL who was active in the redress movement.

In 2015, Marissa Orozco, now attending UC Berkeley and majoring in economics, was awarded $1,000. Kellie Benson (USC, pre-pharmacy) and Andrew Gruhn (UC Riverside, biology) were each awarded $500.

There will be an opportunity drawing. Shinjo, Toi Nakamoto and the Monday Night Formation Team will perform an exhibition of dances.

Donation: $17 at the door. For more information, contact Miyako Kadogawa at (310) 839-1194 or Janet Okubo at (310) 835-7568.
