Masao was born in Los Angeles on July 8, 1927, and passed away on March 17, 2017, at his daughter’s home in Los Alamitos, Calif. Mas and his family were interned at Pomona Assembly Center and relocated to Heart Mountain, Wyoming. He played baseball and was the captain (fullback position) for the undefeated and untied football team. He graduated from Heart Mountain High School in May of 1945.
While waiting to be drafted he attended Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles, where he majored in architecture. Once serving in the Army he was honorably discharged as a Tech Sergeant and then graduated with an accounting degree from Los Angeles City College in 1947.
He worked at Grand Central Market in Los Angeles and went on to own two ranch markets. Mas enjoyed traveling to Europe with his wife as well as to the Soviet Union, China, Japan, and Greece. Before he passed away, he could be seen walking Diana’s two dogs every morning for a couple hours in their neighborhood.
Mas is survived by his wife, Bunny, two daughters, son-in-law, and one grandson, Corey Masao Ogimachi Awakuni, and many nieces and nephews.
No funeral services were held.
