George H. Nakano, a resident of Los Altos, Calif., passed away peacefully on Jan. 16, 2018. He was surrounded by family members.
He was born in Modesto, Calif., where the family lived until the internment of Americans of Japanese descent during WWII. The family was displaced to the Granada War Relocation Center (Camp Amache) in Colorado.
George attended college at UC Berkeley. He and his wife, Fumiko, started their family in Berkeley and then moved to White Sands, New Mexico, where he served in the Army. After his military service, he attended graduate school at UCLA, where he obtained his Ph.D. in physics. George and his family moved from Los Angeles to Los Altos, Calif.
He worked his entire career as an experimental physicist at Lockheed Missiles and Space in Palo Alto.
He enjoyed skiing at Lake Tahoe and took up golf after he retired. George loved music and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
George is survived by his wife, Fumi, his brother, Dr. Frank Nakano, his sons and their wives, Steven, David, Robert and Tara, Richard and Cici, and his grandchildren, Eric, Ryan, Scott, Kaitlyn, and Adan.
Buddhist services will be held at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple, located at 575 N Shoreline Blvd, Mountain View, CA 94043, at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018.
