April 28, 1928 – March 28, 2018

It is with profound sadness that the family of Michiko “Michi” Nishino announce her passing. Surrounded by her family, Michiko passed away comfortably and peacefully on March 28, 2018 in Santa Maria, California.

Michiko was born on April 28, 1928 in San Pedro, California. She attended Fairlawn Elementary School, El Camino Junior High School and Santa Maria High School. From 1942 until 1945, she was interned at the Butte Internment Camp in Gila Bend, Arizona. In 1952, she married Toshiharu “Tosh” Nishino, the “love of her life,” whom she had known since childhood.

Michiko was an avid reader and talented seamstress. When her children were young, she took on leadership positions at their school. She assisted her husband in their wholesale produce business, Nishino & Taniguchi Produce Company. Her love of travel took her cruising to many destinations around the world on Crystal Cruises, enjoying the adventures with dear friends and family.

A woman with class and incredible generosity, Michiko can best be described as a woman with both inner and outer beauty. She had an unforgettable laugh. Above all, she was lovingly devoted to her family. Michiko is survived by her loyal and devoted daughter, Jo Anne Spencer, and her husband Ray, loving grandson, Ryan Spencer, dear granddaughter, Alison Black, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Michiko was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Tosh, son Randy, parents Ichitaro and Tamae Taniguchi, and brothers Mitsuo and Sumio Taniguchi.

A lovely smile, a kind and caring heart, Michiko will be missed, and forever loved and remembered.

In her honor, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Dudley Hoffman Mortuary Chapel, located at 1003 East Stowell Road in Santa Maria, California, (805) 922-8463.
