George T. Kaneshiro, age 102, died peacefully on May 29, 2018.
He was born March 29, 1916, in Ewa, Hawaii, and grew up in Kin, Okinawa and Los Angeles.
George was interned at Rohwer, Ark. during WWII, and later joined the U.S. Army. During the Korean War his bravery earned him a Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal; his unit, the MIS, was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.
He was a charter member of the West L.A. Holiness Church, and a leading member of the Venice-Japanese Community.
He had a long career in the airline industry, lived in California and Colorado, and loved his family, the outdoors and gardening.
George is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shoko; his children; and grandchildren.
Private service was held on June 7 at West L.A. Holiness Church.
