Minoru “Min” Shinmoto
June 30, 1925 – April 21, 2018

Minoru “Min” Shinmoto, born on June 30, 1925 in Upland, Calif., passed away peacefully at home in Torrance on April 21, 2018 at the age of 92.

Predeceased by his youngest son, Craig who passed away in 2000, he is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Setsuko “Dorothy” Shinmoto; daughter, Tracy Ann (Michael) Wilson; son, Steve (Susannah) Shinmoto; grandchildren, Jason Schneider (Belia Salas) and Kristina “Kimi” Schneider; great granddaughters, Alexis and Amaia Schneider; sister, Mitsuko Matsuo; also many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Min served in the U.S. Army’s Military Intelligence Service from 1944 to 1946 during WWII. Later, he and his brothers, Tsuneo (Tony) and Kiyoto (Herk) co-founded and operated a successful nursery business, Southern California Nursery in Culver City, for 51 years. After retiring, Min would not only tend to his own garden, but many of his neighbor’s yards.

In recent years, he co-authored two books: “Seinan Southwest Los Angeles” and “Nikkei General and Admirals.” Min was also responsible for the re-landscaping project at the Go for Broke Monument in downtown Los Angeles in 2015.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Venice Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, 12371 Braddock Dr, Culver City, CA 90230.
