Tamiko Sakimoto passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2018 at the age of 92. She is survived by her son Dan (Sharyn) of Fullerton, CA and son Wayne (Judean) of Villa Park, CA. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Haylee Forster (Joshua), Evan, Tyler and Candace Kimi. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Eddie Kiyoshi Sakimoto.
Tamiko was born November 14, 1925 in Oakland, CA to Takeo and Somie Kosakura. She was raised in Berkeley, CA, where she attended Berkeley High School. During World War II the Kosakura family was uprooted and forced to relocate to Topaz Internment Camp in Utah and later to Tule Lake Internment Camp in Northern California. Tamiko continued her high school studies while in camp. After being released from Tule Lake in 1945, the family lived briefly in Brooklyn, NY and Mamaroneck, NY before settling in Los Angeles, CA.
In 1953, Tamiko married Eddie Kiyoshi Sakimoto. They lived in Toms River, NJ until 1959, moved to Los Angeles in 1960 and then to Fullerton that same year, where Tamiko lived for 55 years until she moved in with son Wayne and family in 2015.
A memorial service for Tamiko will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Orange County Buddhist Church, 909 S. Dale Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92804. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tamiko’s memory to the Orange County Buddhist Church.
