Sumi Kobata passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on June 23, 2018. She was 98 years old. She was born in Montecito, Calif. on Oct. 4, 1919, and was a longtime resident of Gardena.
She is survived by son Gerald; daughter Barbara; sister Alice Kajiya; brother Brian Hagiwara; and a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws from the Kajiya, Iwata, and Kobata families. A private service will be held Aug. 3, 2018 at Green Hills Mortuary at noon. She will be sadly missed by family and her many friends throughout her life.
