Tomoyo “Tommie” Kuramoto passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in Boulder, Colorado on August 11, 2018 at the age of 91. Born in Ugui, Nachikatsuura-cho, Wakayama-ken, she grew up on Terminal Island in Los Angeles, where her father was a fisherman and her mother worked in the cannery. She was a graduate of Manzanar High School, where she was a star player on the girls’ baseball team. She worked as a hairdresser, typist, and many other jobs and lived in New York, the Los Angeles area and Falls Church, Va., before moving to Boulder to be near family.
She will be remembered for her hard-working, energetic, and fun-loving nature and her love of the ocean. She is survived by daughter Susan Moffat and grandchildren Sonya and Hannah Schoenberger of Albany, Calif.; and daughter Michele Moffat, son-in-law Todd Cassan, and grandchildren Wyatt, Beckett, and Sam Cassan of Boulder, Colo.; and a brother, Tomio Kuramoto of Florida.
