Michiko Yanagisawa
June 17, 1947 – November 23, 2018

Michiko Yanagisawa, age 71, passed away peacefully at home in Long Beach, Calif. on November 23, 2018. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Seiji, and her grandson, Aaron; she is survived by her daughter, Grace Yanagisawa Carney; stepchildren, Albert (Sherry), Will (Miki), Steve (Regina); grandchildren, Kazu, Kimi, Brianna, Wyatt, Asher, Scott, Turner and Hayden Yanagisawa, and Jasmine Carney; she is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Michiko was born on June 17, 1947 in Yonezawa, Japan as the youngest of seven children to Takeo and Toyoko Sato. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and primary caregiver to her beloved husband and older sister, Yoko. Her courageous ten-year battle with lung cancer was an inspiration to many as she never let her illness keep her from living life. Michiko had a great appreciation for the arts and enjoyed live music concerts, art museums, sports and cooking. Some of her favorite past times included gardening, drawing, Japanese calligraphy, baking, watching her children play music and sports, cheering for her favorite baseball players with dad at Dodgers Stadium while having a Dodger Dog, visiting the John Paul Getty Museum and afternoons at Descanso Gardens. She was a consistent presence at many music recitals, golf tournaments, birthday parties and special occasions for her children, grandchildren and friends. Her love, kindness and selfless dedication to others will be remembered by many.

Special “Thank You” to the many talented and caring doctors and specialists who guided her through the ups and downs of cancer treatment. Special recognition to her beloved daughter, Grace, for serving as her primary caregiver and providing the loving support and dedicated care that only a daughter can provide.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, December 27, 11:00 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park Graveside, 27501 S. Western Ave. in Rancho Palos Verdes.
