Joe Haruo Mizutani
July 21, 1921 – February 8, 2019
Joe Haruo Mizutani, 97, passed away on February 8, 2019 at his home in Kingsburg, California. Joe was born in Los Angeles, California in 1921 and moved to Kingsburg in 1934, when his father took responsibility for the Mizutani Grocery Store. From 1947 to 1983, Joe became the third-generation owner of the grocery store, where he held the popular Tuesday and Saturday jackpot drawing. Joe was an avid amateur radio operator, enjoyed playing pool, and watching Westerns on his iPad.
He is preceded in death by his wife Fukiko and sister Chizu. He is survived by his son Michael (Arline Nakanishi) Mizutani, his daughters Patricia Mizutani and Janice Kagbo, his stepson Rodney Kaihara, his sister Michiko (Roy) Deguchi, and his brother Mitsuo (Sachiko) Mizutani. He is also survived by a granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank his caregivers at Comforts of Home and his many friends, who supported and loved Joe.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 21 from 2 to 6 pm at Creighton Memorial Chapel, 1588 Lincoln St, Kingsburg, CA 93631. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 22 at 2 pm at the Kingsburg Cemetery, 12782 E Clarkson Ave, Kingsburg, CA 93631.
