Michael M. Ego

Dr. Michael M. Ego (68) passed away unexpectedly on January 27, 2019. He is survived by his wife and four children. Michael grew up in Gardena, California and went to many places in pursuit of higher education. His studies took him to California State University, Dominguez Hills, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education; California State University, Los Angeles for his master’s degree in Recreation Administration; and the University of Oregon for his PhD in Leisure Studies in Service. Dr. Ego’s focus and passion in education was Asian American family studies and gerontology. Dr. Ego worked in higher education as faculty and university administrator at California State University, Dominguez Hills; California State University, Northridge; San José State University; University of Hawai’i, Hilo; and the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Ego enjoyed cheering for the Los Angeles Dodgers, teaching as a professor of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Connecticut, and managing his research in baseball and golf sports reminiscence therapy.

A service will be held at the Gardena Buddhist Church on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM; favorite sports or university team shirt suggested. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UConn Foundation, Inc. Stamford Campus Scholarship Fund (#030713) for a memorial scholarship, “In memory of Dr. Michael M. Ego”.
