Minoru Sasaki, a 93-year-old resident of Grover Beach, passed away on Feb. 14, 2019. A Nisei, Minoru was born on Sept. 15, 1925 in Isleton, Calif. and grew up in the area before being interned at Rohwer Relocation Center. After the war, he served in the U.S. Army, then lived in Chicago for several years, graduating from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He married Ida Nishimoto in 1956 and they settled in Canoga Park where they raised their children; Minoru worked as a structural engineer at Rocketdyne. He moved to Grover Beach in 2013.
Minoru is survived by children, Leela (Paul Certa) Sasaki and John (Donna) Sasaki; brother Shoken Sasaki; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ida Sasaki; sister Clara Yugawa; and brothers George and Peter.
Funeral services were held on March 3, 2019 at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach. Reverend Naomi Nakano of San Luis Obispo Buddhist Temple officiated.
